Chapaguri

Chapaguri is the iconic dish made famous by the Academy Award-winning movie "Parasite" (Best Picture in 2020).  This film featured a mash-up of two types of instant ramens that is popular in Korean households.  The characters in the movie added high quality beef to illustrate that they were a higher class than working-class Koreans.  I used a packet of beef sirloin roast from Trader Joe's because I am a working-class American.

Chapaguri is easy to make.  It is a combination of two separate ramens: Neoguri and Chapagetti, both made by the Korean company Nongshim.  The Neoguri noodles are thicker udon-style noodles and the flavoring packet is a spicy seafood.  The Chapagetti has a black-bean (jjajang) flavor packet and a vegetable oil packet.  I've had the Chapagetti by itself and I wasn't a huge fan but combining these two noodle types and flavor packets made it taste pretty good.

First, I stuck the "grass fed beef sirloin roast" into the over at 375 degrees for 20 minutes.  The meat is already pre-cooked so I was basically just warming it.  While that was happening, I brought 4 cups of water to a boil and dumped both noodle packets inside along with both packets of dried vegetables.  After 4-5 minutes, I removed the noodles and put them in a pan, pouring a little bit of the pasta water into the pan as well.  Next, both the flavor packets and packet of oil were added and the noodles were stirred vigorously, making sure every piece had a good coating of sauce.  The Neoguri is a broth-based ramen, but in this version, there won't be any broth.  I plated the noodles and topped it with the sliced up beef.  Dinner is served!
