Seafood Tonkotsu Dipping Ramen - Sun Noodle
The second limited edition ramen that was available from Sun Noodle for National Noodle Day for $4.99 for one serving (but has since sold out) is this Gyokai Tonkotsu Tsukemen (tsukemen means "dipping ramen" in Japanese). This is different than a standard ramen where the noodles are in a broth. Instead, the noodles are dipped into the sauce and then eaten. Tsukemen was created in the 1960s in Tokyo.
The cook time for the noodles was six minutes. i opened the included paste and squeezed it in a dipping bowl and poured hot water into it, topping it with green onions. I drained the noodles, put them in a bowl, and topped them with more green onions, pork belly, a soft(ish) boiled egg, and some marinated bamboo shoots. This was extremely delicious. The noodles were nice and thick and the dipping sauce was very salty and good. The dipping sauces for tsukemen tend to be saltier than a ramen broth since you aren’t supposed to consume it like a soup; simply dip the noodles in and slurp.
